CMS board member Margaret Marshall says ‘no final decision’ made on south Charlotte high site

In an emailed statement to the Ledger on Sunday night, CMS board member Margaret Marshall wrote:

As you know a South Charlotte High School was a project on the 2017 bond.  Work has been going on since 2017 to secure a site.  CMS is committed to delivering this project and to address overcrowding in our high schools in the Southeast Charlotte area – specifically Ardrey Kell, South Meck, and Myers Park.  CMS staff have been looking at possible placements for this project since 2017.  It has been very difficult to find a site large enough and at a price that fits the budget. The high cost of land in that area of Mecklenburg County will surprise no one.   The Olde Providence site is being considered and some soil testing was done last week as part of the information gathering process.  Some trees were removed to get equipment into a wooded area.  No additional activity is planned at this time.  There is much to be considered here and those questions are being asked of staff. No final decision has been made.   We are open to other options and invite folks to give us any leads on large tracts of land we might consider.
